This is the first report on the isolation of a complete methanogenic consortium for saline fish waste.
•
The consortium is adapted for 90% biomethane production from proteinaceous saline waste.
•
The consortium consists of five members: two fermenters and three methanogens.
•
The role of individual isolates was confirmed by successful reconstitution of the consortium.
•
Efficient bioconversion of saline waste solids reduces the environmental impact of RAS.
