SEM analysis indicated that the particle size distribution varies
depending on the activation method. Activation with only KOH led
to significant particle fracturing and consumption, consistent with
the low yields obtained. In contrast, the AC samples activated with
only NaOH maintained a broad particle size distribution. The
addition of steam enhanced the activation and was most effective
in terms of mesopore formation when added in the presence of the
chemical agent. Washing the samples between chemical and steam
activation, led to AC with features similar to AC activated with only
chemical activation.
