Promotion has the potential not only to increase demand in both domestic and export
markets, but to differentiate the product in the market and thereby reduce its
susceptibility to price competition. Other related strategies include the establishment of
global marketing companies and collaborating with competitors to form closed loop marketing systems that exploit the seasonality of supply. More fundamental however, is
the need to identify and to develop those crops in which producers have a competitive
advantage.
