On Sunday 21 October, teachers from the Middle Harbour Teachers Association handed out apples to students and shared concerns about education cuts with parents and the community at the Crows Nest Festival.
Middle Harbour Teachers Association represents teachers from thirty primary and secondary schools on the Lower North Shore of Sydney.
Association executive member, Gemma Ackroyd, said:
"Rather than giving an apple to the teacher, children at the Crows Nest Festival received an apple from the teacher.
"We are very concerned about the loss of 600 positions from state and regional offices, 800 positions in TAFE and 400 school administrative staff positions across the state. The staffing and funding cuts of $1.7 billion in public education over the next four years will adversely affect the quality of the education that we provide."
The next event organised by the Association is a community forum, on Wednesday 24th October at 7pm in the Learning Centre at Chatswood High School, 24 Centennial Avenue, Chatswood.
