Outcomes
The primary study outcome was a composite of myocardial in- farction, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes. Each of these outcomes was also analyzed separately. Secondary outcomes were death from any cause, the need for revascularization, hospitaliza- tion for unstable angina or heart failure, and complications relat- ed to diabetes (whether or not hospitalization was required). Oth- er outcomes were worsening angina, cardiac arrest, heart failure (whether or not hospitalization was required), unstable angina with electrocardiographic changes, and the development of diabe- tes. These outcomes are defined in a companion paper
