Chemotaxonomic characteristics. Freeze-dried cells were used for all chemotaxonomic analysis. The isomers of diaminopimelic acid on cell wall peptidoglycan were determined by TLC as described by Komagata and Suzuki [16]. The menaquinone was extracted by using chloroform: methanol (2:1) [17] and analyzed by us ing HPLC equipped with C18 reversed phase column (4.6 by 150 mm, Nacalai Tesque, Kyoto, Japan).
