Fortunately, GMS government seem not to have lost sight of this, perhaps because in some case smallholding have a significant share in rubber or cassava production.The GMS programme on agriculture also has acknowledged the imperative of greater engagement with smallholders.
Beyond ackowledging and planing however, more action is needed to ensure state support.
Assistance can range from securing land right and promoting microfinance rural infrastructure and enhancing seed and fertiliser market and distribution systems.
Diversification of market. Current production and export strategies appear to be directed mainly to expanding niches in China.
While this is justifiable because of China's prospective demand for rubber and cassava, the protencial in minor and new markets should not be discounted.
