Conclusion
Most perianal complaintsin febrile neutropenic patients are
due to non septic conditions and can safely be managed conservatively.
Septic conditions do not have the same poor outcome
that was associated with them in the past and mortality rate is very low. This if probably attributed to the better medical
care and the use of more potent antibiotics and CSF.
Surgical drainage is not indicated in all cases. We believe
that it should be done in all cases where there is a collection
or fluctuation. In patients who have no collection,
on the other hand, the treatment should be non surgical.
They should be followed up closely to detect the development
of later fluctuation or, uncommonly, NF.
