Results showed that lower adhesion loss occurred on the surface treated samples than on the bare sample. It is obvious that the coating applied on the steel substrate treated by PVA containing phosphate coating showed the lowest adhesion loss. This has been attributed to two main reasons. First, the more compact phosphate layer formed in the presence of PVA compared to the one without additive. As a result, the cathodic activity of the sample phosphated by Zn-PVA would be much lower than the one without PVA. Sec-ond, PVA increased the adhesion properties of the epoxy coating greater than the one without additive.
