Targeted and specialized education for public health nursing practice has a long history. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, before the integration of public health concepts into the curriculum of baccalaureate nursing programs, special baccalaureate curricula were established in several schools of public health to prepare nurses to become pubilc ,health assumed that a graduate of any baccalaureate nursing program has the necessary basic preparation to function as a beginning staff 1 public health nurse.
