This is the first study to examine the issue of CNE in Hong Kong and it provides a broad overview of the current situation of participation in CNE. It identifies factors influencing nurses' current involvement in CNE programs and whether they can incorporate previous CNE learning into their practice. It thereby provides useful background information to debates around mandatory CNE. It may also make a useful contribution to discussions about the program proposed for Hong Kong and, if the program is implemented, contribute to enforcement and implementation strategies.
