The Banco River Basin (approximately 9 km) is located between 5◦21’–5◦25’ N and
4◦01’–4◦05’ W in the BNP (3000 ha) (Figure 1). The climate of the BNP is typical of equatorial
rain forest, comprising four seasons (Girard et al., 1971): a long dry season (December
to March), a long rainy season (April to July), a low dry season (August to September) and a
low rainy season (October to November).
