The body and one leg are nearly horizontal at the water surface. Theoppo-site leg is held vertical at a ninety-degree angle to the water surface. The anartomical markings that deternino the vertical line are the outside of the little toe, the ankle bone (outer malecolas), the outside of the knee. And the outside center of the hip. The hip extensors hold the horizontal leg at the surface. The head is held in line with the shoulders as the chest is pressed to the water surface. Support sculling is at the top depth, rapid, near the hips, and in line with the center of gravity of the position. The pelvis is stabilized by lower adbominal contraction, counterbalanced by the pull of the hip extensors. Some adduction of both lega keeps the thighs close to the midline of the body.
