Prince of Wales Island International School (POWIIS) is situated in Penang, and is a relatively new school, having opened for classes in September 2011.
POWIIS is a full boarding secondary school, and combines traditional English boarding school values with modern educational practice brought to life by a team of highly-qualified and experience teachers.
Teaching and Learning
Years 7 - 9 uses a general curriculum based mainly on the National Curriculum for England and Wales. The curriculum culminates with the IGCSE at year 10 and 11.
Students in Years 12 and 13 (sixth form) then have a free choice of A Levels subjects. ICT is used in everyday teaching and learning, and students' progress is monitored through a comprehensive pastoral system.
The school believes that a happy and wholesome environment helps children to learn better and by monitoring their progress through an effective pastoral system, they can best guide and counsel their pupils in their academic lives.
Facilities
The schoolc provides the most up to date facilities nestled in a campus environments which is both beautiful and serene. The extensive facilites at the school includes nine science labs, outdoor sporting facilities that include tennis courts and a natural acoustic auditorium which provides the venue for many of the school's performing arts or musical events.
Additionaly, the school has medical and transport services available to cater to the needs of students and teachers alike.
