Skilled and traditional birth attendants were trained to reliably
perform bimanual uterine compression in Ghana with
excellent results using a validated obstetric simulator designed
specifically for that purpose (Figure 2).14,15 The simulator
uses an array of 6 light-emitting diodes to provide feedback
about the degree of uterine compression being achieved by the
user, with more lights indicating greater compression.14 Each
