1. ALL’S WELL THAT WELL
An honest working- man was returning to a certain city by the evening train after a hard day’s work in the country. He sat all alone in the compartment, peacefully smoking his pipe. At the last station before the terminus. A lady come in, holding in her arms a little dog. The strong smell of tobacco pleased neither the lady nor her dog, and she requested the workman, rather sharply, to stop smoking . He pointed out that it was a smoking compartment, that the train was half- empty that she had plenty of time to choose her compartment, that there were first- class carriages as well as thirds, and that in any case they would arrive at their destination in a few minutes
