The device was developed by researchers at King’s College and Queen Mary University Hospital. Development of the product was financed primarily by the NHS (National Health Service), with some additional financing from Abbot Pharmaceuticals and GlaxoWellcome Pharmaceuticals. Abbot and GlaxoWellcome provide this funding as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility portfolio, and are not traditional ‘shareholders’ in the enterprise. The company DiabetesCorp was registered in October 2013, to focus on the marketing and distribution of this product.
