Recipients are free to use the money however they wish but authorities are hoping the money will be spent quickly to help boost the economy. Already, businesses are lining up to make sure that happens. Twenty-one retailers and other businesses with 3,100 outlets have signed on to provide special offers to beneficiaries of the government 's programmer. They will offer special discounts and promotions to people using the cheques to buy goods and services from them. To make things even easier for the recipients, they will be able to use their cheques at the participating companies without having to first clear them through their banks. The cheques will have special printing featured to guard against counterfeiting and fraud. Deputy finance Pruektichai Damrongrut says he hopes more businesses will join the scheme before the cheques go out. Participating companies are understandably optimistic that the scheme will boost their sales. Jakchai Nutprayoon, a senior vice-president of CPF Trading Co, said the handout and special promotions would help improve people's purchasing power and stimulate overall consumption.
