Sangkhlaburi wooden bridge can be considered as the route of an international friendship between Thais and Mons because it links together Sangkhlaburi district to the Mon community on the other side of the bank. Therefore, it was given the name Saphan Mon. In the past, this bridge was built under the commission of highly sacred Luang Phor Uttama of Wang Wiwekaram temple, whom Thai, Mon and Karen people share a great respect in. It is said that some of huge logs used in the construction of the bridge were actually withered trees under the Khao Laem reservoir.
