The inherent characteristic of an infinite turn potentiometer is that its resistance varies periodically depending on the amount of rotating (typically one full rotation corresponds to the maximum resistance span). In the finite turn potentiometer, the amount of rotations required to expand the full scale of resistance limlit the amount of revolutions of the shaft.
