The lowestapparentdensityvalueswereobtainedwithwheat
bran(0.32gcm3) andcottonseedmeal(0.33gcm3) asdry
substrates(Fig. 1c). Whenthesubstrateshavetheinitialmoisture
adjusted to50.0%forsimulationoftherealfermentationcondi-
tions, increasesintheapparentdensitieswereobserved.Ahigh
valueofapparentdensitywasfoundinsoybeanmealasdryor
moist substrate,showingvaluesof0.72and0.80gcm3, respec-
tively,whichmighttoresultinproblemsascompactation,impair-
ing themassandenergytransference(Fig. 1c). Nosignificant
correlations( p-Valuer0.10)wereobservedbetweentheapparent
densities andtheproteaseproduction.
