The effect of increased ambient temperature on ADFI
in growing pigs has been extensively described. In a
review, Le Dividich et al. (1998) reported that the asso-
ciated reduction of ADFI ranged from a minimum of 40
gd−1
°C−1
to a maximum of 80 gd−1
°C−1
. According to
these authors, this large variability can be explained
bymany factors including breed, BWrange, diet compo-
sition, and to the greatest extent, temperature range.
From our results, each degree increase in ambient tem-
perature from 24 to 31°C resulted in a reduction of
ADFI equivalent to about 8 gd−1
kg−0.60
in LW pigs
when both experiments were considered. This value
is similar to the value estimated from the equation
proposed by Quiniou et al. (2000; 7 gd−1
kg−0.60
)
