Timken also produced custom-made steel products, including alloy and steel components
for automotive and industrial customers. That business provided the company with the
opportunity to further expand its market for tubing and to capture higher value-added steel sales.
It also enabled Timken’s traditional tubing customers in the automotive and bearing industries to
take advantage of higher-performing components that cost less than alternative products.
Custom-made products were a growing portion of the company’s steel business.
