Ceramic pigments crystallizing with a srilankite-type structure (e.g. ZrTiO4, space group Pbcn) were firstly
developed in 1985 by Hund [1] who endeavoured to exploit the promising characteristics of zirconium titanate: i.e.
very high refractive indices (2.33 < n < 2.41), high melting point (1840 8C), and the capacity to host a large variety
of transition metal ions in its lattice.
