The cancer rehabilitation evaluation system, designed specifically for cancer patients, is a 45-item scale with five subscales: physical, psychosocial, medical interaction, marital, and sexual problems.
The items are statements that patients respond to using a five point scale (not at all to very much) indicating how much this statement applied to them during the past month.
A global score combines the five subscales.
The CARES has been used with more than 2,000 cancer patients and has established validity, reliability, and patient acceptance.
