cellulose by itself has poor film forming char-acteristics and therefore cellulose derivatives namely cellophane,cellulose esters (e.g. cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate, andcellulose acetate butyrate), and cellulose ethers (e.g. methylcel-lulose carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, etc.) havebeen widely synthesized to exhibit low air, vapor, and grease resis-tance for food packaging applications .
