Variations on participatory mapping
/
The most common type of a village map focuses on the inhabited part of the village, as in the example above. There are many ways that may be of interest to a particular study.
One variation changes the scope of the map. A map can look at a lager area, such as the whole village territory, or even the larger region. A territorial map would include the boundaries around the village land and could explore the resources in the territory and how they are managed. A regional map might include neighboring villages and areas used by villagers. This type of map could be used to explore such issues as marketing practices, uses of health facilities or other services in the larger area, sources of credit, etc.
