Based on the interviews with 36 teacher educators at six HEIs, it becomes clear that time for research has become a commodity that teacher educators have to apply for every year or for 3 years at a time. All teacher educators at one small-sized HEI where very few (fewer than 20%) have a PhD, reported that they had very little time for research and were not involved in larger research projects. One of the larger teacher education institutions in the country reported that it has fewer than 30% of its teacher educators (teaching the BA level program) with a PhD, and teachers at this institution also reported an ongoing struggle for more time to do research
