Mercury Removal Methods in Gas Plants
All of the current methods for removing mercury from natural gas and hydrocarbon liquids use
fixed beds of mercury removal materials. The gas, or liquid, flows through the fixed bed. The
mercury reacts with the reactive reagent in the mercury removal material and stays in the vessel, while
the effluent gas or liquid hydrocarbon is mercury-free. There are two types of mercury removal
materials: non-regenerative mercury sorbents, and regenerative mercury adsorbents.
