In an effort to make the SRM shopping cart creation process more user friendly and prevent data entry errors, the commodity code/product category hierarchy in SRM will be updated to better reflect what we purchase to support HGST functions worldwide. Requestors will find the new commodity/product category grouping more logical and descriptions easier to understand for selection. To achieve this improvement, we will remove some of the old codes, added new ones, change the descriptions and reduce the total number of codes by 20%. We encourage the requestors to follow the new hierarchy in SRM and select codes under the appropriate Material Group and SubGroup, so shopping carts will be routed to the assigned buyers and commodity managers, and the expense will default the correct GL accounts. Requestor will get an error message if manually entering a product category that has been obsoleted, prompting selection of another code from the hierarchy. Target date for new commodity code table go-live is August 31. In preparation for the go-live, all user access to SRM will be locked from 5PM PST on August 28 to 5PM PST on August 30 so no new shopping carts or direct billing invoices can be created during the cutover. SRM Hotline (hotline@hgst.com) and buyers will be available to support the transition. In the meanwhile, the new commodity/product category mapping table is attached and also posted in the SRM-Supplier Relationship Management folder under Procurement for requestor reference. Please reach out to your Procurement contact should you have any questions.
