Sites of corruption?
Figure 4 (Question 5a and b), shows survey results on which occupations or
organisations were associated with corruption. All occupations and organisations
noted by the respondents were recorded, and no prompts were given by the
interviewers.
Perhaps, unsurprisingly given the nature of their work, the police ranked
considerably higher than all other occupations or organisations, with 57 percent of all
respondents identifying the police force as an organisation associated with corruption.
Other significant rankings included: 45 percent of all respondents linking corruption
with political parties at either the state or federal level; 34 percent with big
business/corporations; 18 percent with local government officials; and 5 percent with
the legal profession/judicial system.
