on teaching children social problem solving, interpersonal skills, and appropriate ways to
express anger, using games and activities to help them learn the skills and apply them in
real life. These skills enhance children’s capacity to cope with the many changes and challenges
associated with divorce and give them a sense of control over situations in which
they might otherwise feel helpless. Specifically, children are taught to differentiate between
problems that they can and cannot control. This key distinction helps them to master the
psychological task of disengaging from interparental conflicts and redirecting energies
