We cannot tell from these studies whether the 14C-PEG that does appear in the environment of these animals is the result of an excretory process or leakage from the site of injection, or both. In any event, the extent of 14C-PEG loss is small compared to the injected dose and does not differ between control and EA animals.
Our data on hemolymph levels of 14C-PEG and live body weights also permit an estimate to be made of hemolymph volumes. Calculated as a percentage of body weight these valuses are 31 -+5% for controls and 57 +- 9% for EA lobsters.
