The current investigation as well as the relationship between
separation distances and annoyance discussed in Section 4 delivers
a good empirical evidence to assess odour exposure by use of
dispersion models. Even the influence of the selected peak-to mean
approach can be assessed by field measurements (Ranzato et al.,
2012; Schauberger et al., 2012). In the present investigation, no
field measurements were undertaken. In view of the referenced
field studies we are of opinion that the separation distances presented
here calculated on the basis of a one year meteorological
data set are within a plausible range (except when using the factor
4), and therefrom it is concluded that the approach presented here
can be in principle used for odour exposure assessment studies as
long as the appropriate dispersion model is selected and meteorological
know-how is available for data interpretation.
