As found in the first paper and extended or amended in the second, Ravenstein's laws are summarizedin his own words below. The first five of these items include the laws as they are usually quoted, while items 6 and 7, though taken from the general conclusions of his second paper, are not ordinarily included. This, however, is due more to Ravenstein's way of numbering the laws and to his somewhat tentative statement of the dominance of the economic motive than to his own estimate of the importance of his conclusions.
