The groundwater in the study area is mainly alkaline in
nature. The abundance of major ions are in the
following order Na+>Ca2+>Mg2+>K+ = HCO3->Cl-
>SO4
2->NO3->CO3
2-. The concentrations of cations
such as Na2+ and Mg2+ exceed the maximum allowable
limits for drinking water at some locations which are
near to the MSW dumping yards in the study area. Ca+
concentrations in the groundwater, however, are withinthe permissible limits in August 2010. The anions such
as SO42- are well within the permissible limits for
drinking except at one location which is near to the area
of location of dump yards. Only at four locations out of
which three are very near to the MSW dump yards in
the study region.
