In comparison to breeding farms, in
fattening farms, there is a higher animal exchange and pigs
from different suppliers are often housed together in one
barn. Herds with MRSA positive suppliers have 11 times
higher odds to be positive as well ( Browns et al., 2011b).
With a given proportion of positive breeding herds in the
population, every additional supplier increases the risk of
selective media. Harper et al. (2010) used an impactor to
measure MRSA in the air of pig barns. However,
comparison of the results of the studies are vague due
to incomplete information about the number of examined
animal houses or details about air sampling like sampled
volume, time or measuring points.
