In this study, MRSA was detected in eight of 89 ambulance car cabins after transport of MRSA-positive patients. Transport times of less than 20 min were included, because this accounts for a large proportion of all jobs. The spa types of the MRSA strains identified were identical to those predominantly found at the University Hospital Würzburg.7 This was not surprising, as most patients transported were indeed treated at the University Hospital. It is well documented that environmental contamination is a factor for MRSA spread.9e11 Unfortunately, little is known about how MRSA lineages and strains differ with regard to their environmental survival rate.
