Among the
tested E. coli O157:H7, the inactivation rates of strains CR-3 and MN-
28, and the 3-strain composite inoculum were not different from
each other, but were all significantly higher than E. coli O157:H7
(HCIPH 96055) strain and a non-pathogenic E. coli K-12 strain
(D ¼ 0.49 min) previously established in the same apple juice
medium (Gabriel and Nakano 2009). An E. coli K-12 strain was also
reported to have similar or lower UV-C inactivation rate in phosphate
buffer compared to a number of E. coli O157:H7 isolates
