The computed ĪS(r) on the side of the N-doped BC3NTs are
quite different than those of pristine one. Comparison with the ĪS,
min of the pristine (6,0) nanotube indicates that surface reactivity
of the pristine tube is slightly modified after the nitrogen insertion.
What is notable, however, is the significant reduction in ĪS,min
of the neighboring atoms in the NC6 and NC8 models. The results
reveal that that the nitrogen impurity tends to activate the surface
toward electrophilic/radical attack. In the models NC6 and NC8, the
value of ĪS,min reduces by a magnitude of 0.3 eV with respect to the
pristine tube
