From 2001-2014 the Board of Investment (BOI) has registered and FDI inflow of
US$ 28,254.24 million from China. This proportion of Chinese FDI to Thailand implies
the expressed and explicit desire of China in Thailand resources. In Thailand, like in
some other Asian countries, three related factors explain the observed positive
developments in Chinese FDI flows. These are changes in FDI regime; privatization
program of the government; and the aggressive drive of government in attracting FDI
into the country (WTO, 2005). The recent developments notwithstanding, there is a
huge investment gap in the development of the Thailand economy and the required
investment can only be expected after the investment climate has improved.
