1.2.4. Age, internet use, and social networking website use
Finally, to account for past patterns of use, it is important to rec-ognize the difference in attitudes formed through direct experience. Technology usage patterns are important to measure, as many have noted that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. This study considered years of age and frequency of internet use as individual factors that may influence intention to use social networking websites.
Age has been little studied as a factor affecting intention to use new technologies, both when testing the TAM and in consumer re-search (Ryu et al., 2009). Phang et al. (2006) found that older adults who perceived themselves in declining physical condition reported e-government services as less easy to use. Ryu et al. (2009) found that perceived physical condition was negatively related to intention to use a video sharing website but was not negatively related to any other predictor of intention to use.
Though this study measures only age in years rather than as perceived physical condition, past evidence suggests the following hypothesis:
