In the present study, we investigated the remedial effects of a singlestrain (9#) and a mixture of strains (9#, 2# and 12#) on two rice vari-eties. Our more comprehensive study demonstrated, for thefirst time,that the remedial effect and the mechanism of action of single strainand mixed strain bacteria on Cd-contamination were different in tworice varieties. ForOryza sativaL. A, a single strain, 9#, plays a main rolein remediation; forOryza sativaL. B, a synergistic effect between threestrains (9#, 2# and 12#) plays a major role in remediation. Althoughthis phenomenon needs further exploration, our work indicates that,in the study of microbial remediation effects in different rice varieties,the effects of a mixture of bacterial stains should be considered as wellas those of a single strain.
