These limitations have made Ethernet particularly unsuited to application at H1 level. It has, however, become very popular at H2 level, which generally covers shorter distances and requires the interconnection of fewer components. In these situations, the increased cost of Ethernet can be weighed against the increased data speeds, interconnectivity with commercial protocols and the easily implementable redundancy that Ethernet offers.
