The Tourism Development Fund
The Tourism Development Fund was set up by the Department of Tourism
in 1999 to fund tourism development in the country. The Department
collects US$10 per visitor from tour operators and it is intended that this
fund will be available for the maintenance of tourism infrastructure, joint
marketing programmes, and development of new tourism products (ecotourism
and adventure sports such as white-water rafting and kayaking).
The fund has also been utilised to set up the office of the Association of
Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO).
