There was no difference in the frequency of physician diagnosed
allergic rhinitis between the two groups, 19% for
farmers vs. 20.5% for non-farmers (nZ185 vs. nZ126).
However, symptomsof rhinitis were significantly lesscommon
among farmers than non-farmers, 27.1% vs. 33.3% (nZ266
vs. nZ206) (pZ0.008). The self-reported occurrence of
fever and systemic symptoms was more common among
farmers than non-farmers, 8.3% vs. 3.0% (nZ77 vs. nZ16)
(p < 0.0001).
