A market is a mechanism for exchange between the buyers and sellers of a particular good or service. In earlier times markets were actual physical settings where buyers and sellers would gather. Although such market settings still are used for things like fish, fruits and vegetables, and antiques and collectibles, many commercial markets today are fundamentally different in that buyers and sellers are not at the same place. they arrange their exchange via mail orders, telephones, fax machines, and so forth. The growth of the Internet and World Wide Web also is serving to transform some markets to make it even easier for buyers and sellers to transact their business at a distance.
