The MBH preparation containing 14–16% (w/w) Poloxamer 407 with suitable viscosity was used to deliver triptolide for transdermal administration. In this study, the optimal concentration of Poloxamer 407 was established. The addition of triptolide to MBH weakened the interconnected network structures of the system to a certain extent, but the networks were not destroyed. The results of the in vitro permeation test in mice showed that MBH and microemulsion both facilitate the permeation of triptolide. It can be concluded that MBH provides strong permeability with low irritation and should prove to be a promising transdermal drug delivery system.
