The use of chemical pesticides is a cost-effective method of controlling insect pests, but these chemicals are highly toxic to other species in the environment. There is a growing concern worldwide over the indiscriminate use of such chemicals, which cause environmental pollution and posit a toxicity risk to non-target organisms (Rao et al., 2003), thus, intensified efforts are being made to find safe, effective and viable alternatives.
