Researchers working with the research ecotour operator are based on the
islands of Kaledupa and the smaller neighbouring island of Hoga, the latter
being virtually unpopulated, whilst Kaledupa is home to 15,000 people in 17
mainly coastal villages (Mantri Statistik Kecamatan Kaledupa, 2002). The only
other centre of tourism activity within the marine national park is a dive tour
operator with a capacity of 22 visitors which was established in 1995 on the island
of Tomia.
